Flyfisher Guide to California eBook Greg Vinci

This book is a good one and has definitely helped me discover more CA waters. However, the info could be more condensed, and the personal stories were enthusiastic but a bit cheesy -- I personally highly useful information over sentiment. I think a 2nd edition is in order, maybe include some more waters (or, more detail) and make sure the maps are accurate (e.g. tried to access below Englebright Dam, but it turns out it is closed, and the map does not indicate this). A second edition could also make sure the hatch charts are all squared away (e.g. they sometimes list fish species under the "insect" category, which makes it seem quickly made). Great book to get you to try a new water. In my opinion it might be best for different authors who had truly mastered the water to write each chapter.

Good read.
Very informative read for the fish minded. Thank you Greg. California born and raised in have become obsessed with fly fishing and your book has further inspired me to keep learning to become better at the sport.
I like the maps, and all the places listed. There is a lot of information. I think it might have been practical to include the names of flies that match the naturals listed on the hatch chart. I have seen that in other guides.
Greg's been around a long time, and although most of the rivers are not of great interest to me, that's strictly personal and he does a stellar job of giving access points, fishing tips, seasons, rigging, and some good stories. Keeper! Would love to see a stillwater book from Mr. Vinci.
Picked up this book because I wasn't able to see this author at a local show. I'm new to the area and was looking for information about fishing the American River. I have several books on fly fishing. This book provides good descriptions of the water along with details on where to go, how to get there, when to go and what to use. It also offers recommendations on local guides and places to stay. A good addition to my library.
Accurate and current information along with the maps. The GPS locations make this an excellent fly fishing guide for much of California's waters. I used the chapter about the Sacramento River as a guide for a recent fishing trip and found the authors information and maps to be spot accurate! I checked the chapters on water that I already know well and also found the authors information to be accurate. I think this guide is a helpful addition to the book shelf, great location tips and very nice photography as well!
